For most expats, mobile banking is more than a convenience — it’s the main way to manage finances without stepping into a branch. So we looked at how well the UAE’s top banks are delivering on this experience. We explored everything from the ease of opening an account to the security of daily transactions, and even how transparent banks are with their fees and services.

On November 14 at 12:00, we hosted a free online meetup to reveal our findings.

methodology

1. Series of in-depth interviews

We explored expectations, issues with mobile banking, and valued features. The results provide insights into the actual mobile banking experience from a user’s perspective.

2. Desk analysis of mobile applications

The selection of banks includes both state-owned and commercial banks. Ten of these banks are the largest in terms of mobile app user base on Google Play, plus Wio, a neobank aiming to create a unique experience.

3. A comparative analysis

We identify best practices, examine user journey scenarios for UX issues, and verify problems mentioned by respondents during interviews.
